Short answer: A one-off lawn and outdoor tidy timed for a day or two before your visitors arrive, anywhere in South Auckland. Mown, edged, paths cleared, done.

No ongoing commitment. Tell us the arrival date and we work back from it.

Different from an event, in one way

An event is one afternoon and everything points at a single moment. Visitors are there for a week, and they'll see the outside every day — morning coffee on the deck, kids in the back yard, someone taking a phone call on the lawn.

That changes the emphasis. It's less about a perfect first impression and more about the place being genuinely comfortable to be outside in for the whole stay. Which mostly means the lawn actually being usable, and the outdoor areas not being something you apologise for.

Where it matters most

  • The bit visible from the guest room — the view they wake up to every morning of the stay
  • Wherever people will sit — a deck or patio that's green and slippery isn't somewhere anyone lingers
  • The back lawn, if there are kids — long grass with unknown things in it is where the week's one injury comes from
  • The front and the path in — the first thing they see, and the thing they walk past every time

Overseas family and the first-visit factor

A particular version of this call: relatives who haven't been to New Zealand before, or haven't seen your place. There's a natural wish for it to look like the version of your life you've been describing on video calls.

Practically, that usually means the whole outside rather than only the grass — the drive, the paths, the fence line. Those are waterblasting jobs and are worth doing on the same visit if it's been a while.

Common questions

They're staying a month. Should I book more than one visit?

In summer, yes. Auckland grass will undo a single cut within about three weeks between October and April. Two visits across a month-long stay keeps it looking the way it did on day one.

Can you come while they're staying?

Yes. We're used to working around people being home — we'll knock, keep out of the way, and not start at seven in the morning if you tell us there are guests.

What about the deck they'll be sitting on?

Worth doing. A winter's growth makes timber decking genuinely slippery as well as grey. Waterblasting on the same visit is the usual booking.

The grass has really got away while I've been busy.

Common in the run-up to visitors. If it's well past a normal mow, see overgrown lawns — still a same-week job in most cases.
