The awkward maths of a dead mower
A mower dies and you're suddenly making a decision you hadn't planned: repair it, replace it, or stop owning one. Meanwhile the grass doesn't pause while you think, and in an Auckland summer a fortnight of indecision turns a mow into a recovery job.
Booking a cut or two buys you the time to decide properly rather than panic-buying something at the weekend. Plenty of people discover during that gap that they'd rather not go back to owning one at all — but that's a conclusion to reach on your own, not something we'll push.
Repair, replace, or neither
Rough guide, from having seen a lot of them:
- Worth repairing — pull cord, carburettor, blade, cable, spark plug. Common, cheap, and the machine is otherwise fine
- Marginal — engine won't hold compression, deck rusted through, or the repair quote is more than half the price of new
- Worth reconsidering — if storage is tight, if the section is steep, or if you never actually enjoyed it. A mower costs money, space, fuel and servicing on top of your Saturday
We don't repair mowers and we don't sell them, so we've no stake in which way you go.
While you decide
Most people in this situation book one cut, then another if the repair drags. If the grass has already got long while the mower sat in the shed waiting for a part, that's overgrown recovery rather than a standard mow — worth flagging when you enquire so we bring the right gear.

Common questions
Do you bring your own mower?
Always. Mower, line trimmer, blower and fuel. We never need to borrow a customer's equipment, and mowing doesn't need your power or water either.
Can I book just one cut?
Yes. One cut is a completely normal booking and we won't try to convert it into something ongoing.
My mower's been dead for a month and the grass is long.
Then it's a recovery job rather than a mow — see overgrown lawns. Tell us when you enquire so we bring the right machinery and allow enough time.
Can you keep coming until mine is fixed?
Yes, and it's the usual arrangement. Fortnightly is typical. Message us when your mower is back and we'll stop — just before your next visit is soon enough.
I'm thinking of not replacing it at all.
Then regular lawn care is worth pricing. Once the lawn is being kept on top of, each visit is quicker and cheaper than a one-off, and you get the shed space back.
